Angel of the Nativity, 1872. In 1872 Cameron made a series of pictures of her great-nieces Laura and Rachel Gurney (about 1867-1946 and 1864-1920, granddaughters of Sara Prinsep) dressed as angels. Pioneering British photographer Julia Margaret Cameron is considered to be one of the most important portraitists of the 19th century. She took up photography at the age of 48, after her daughter gave her a camera as a present.
