Légende
On the canal, Ghent, 1872. 'The present aspect of Ghent, as our readers may see, is exceedingly picturesque. It lies at the junction of the rivers Scheldt and Lys, with numerous creeks and canals through the town... The canal from Ghent to Terneuse, lower down the Scheldt, enables ships of large size to come up from the sea, and unload in the basin under the city walls. There are pleasant shady walks under the double avenue of trees on the canal banks'. From "Illustrated London News", 1872.
