'Sir Philip Sidney on the Battlefield of Zutphen', c1900. 'He was being carried from the field, parched and languid from loss of blood, when he asked for water. With some difficulty it was procured and put to his lips, when he caught the eager, wistful gaze of a wounded soldier lying at his side, and put it from him, saying, "This man's necessity is greater than mine".'
