Survivors of the explosion of the Atom bomb at Hiroshima, Japan, 1945. Beds occupied by casualties suffering the effects of radiation. On 6 August 1945, a United States Air Force B-29 bomber, codenamed 'Enola Gay' dropped the first atomic bomb over the city of Hiroshima. Some 80,000 people were killed immediately and a further 60,000 died later from radiation sickness and other after effects. (Colorised black and white print).
