'Ball Play of the Ioway Indians' and 'Encampment of Ioways, Lord's Grounds, Regent's Park', c1844. Fourteen indigenous people from North America appeared at the Egyptian Hall, Piccadilly and at Lords Cricket Grounds in London. They held a religious ceremony to mark setting up camp in a new place, and also performed dances, archery and a ball game similar to hurling. The Iowa, also known as Ioway, and the Bah-Kho-Je or Báxoje, are a Native American Siouan people.
