Légende
The Two Fridas (Las dos Fridas), 1939. Double self-portrait, depicting two versions of Kahlo seated together. One is wearing a white European style Victorian dress, while the other is wearing a traditional Tehuana dress. Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) made work inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Her naïve folk art style explored questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race. Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements, and mixed realism with fantasy. She has been described as a surrealist or magical realist. Found in the Collection of Museo de Arte Moderno, Mexico.
