Légende
El venado herido (The Wounded Deer or The Little Deer), 1946. Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) made work inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Her naïve folk art style explored questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race. Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements, and mixed realism with fantasy. Much of her work was inspired by her experience of chronic pain. She has been described as a surrealist or magical realist. Private Collection.
