North Cambridgeshire Cottage Hospital, Wisbech, 1873. 'The North Cambridgeshire Cottage Hospital, at Wisbech, was opened, on Thursday week, by Miss M. E. Trafford Southwell, of Honington Hall, Grantham, the founder of the institution. The hospital has sixteen beds, and is most complete in its furniture and appointments. The grounds in which it is situated adjoin the park, the windows of the hospital wards commanding excellent views over that pleasant resort. The other buildings within the grounds are the surgeon's residence the mortuary, laundry, porter's lodge, and a lofty entrance archway at the principal entrance. The entire cost of the buildings and furniture has been borne by Miss M. E. Trafford Southwell, who has handed over the hospital as a free gift, to the charge of trustees named by her, for the benefit of the sick poor of the neighbourhood. The value of this munificent gift is estimated to reach nearly £10,000, and, in addition, Miss Southwell has given £8000 to the permanent endowment fund'. From "Illustrated London News", 1873.
