The Bristol Musical Festival: views in Bristol, 1873. 'The name of Edward Colston, an enterprising merchant of the seventeenth century, who was born and lived in Bristol, is preserved by his munificent foundations of charity, the hospital, school, and almshouse called after him. Colston Hall, in which the meetings of the Musical Festival have been held, is a handsome and commodious modern edifice, opened six years ago'. In 2020, during the Black Lives Matter protests, a statue of slave-owner Edward Colston was thrown into Bristol Harbour by protesters. From "Illustrated London News", 1873.
