The Autumn Campaign on Cannock Chase, 1873. The British Army in Staffordshire. 'Military Execution, R. Engineers, Oak Edge Park...[One of the] Illustrations obtained by our Artist in the head-quarters' camp at Etching Hill representing some ordinary incidents of camp life and soldierly habits in the field...An unlucky horse of the transport service or engineer train, having been incurably lamed or hurt by some accident, is sentenced to a merciful death, which is executed promptly enough by the martial process of shooting'.
