The Battle of Alma, which takes place on September 20, 1854 on the banks of the River Alma near Sevastopol, is considered the first great battle of the Crimean War. The Crimean War was a conflict that between 1853 and 1856 fought the Russian Empire against a league formed by the Ottoman Empire, France, the United Kingdom and the kingdom of Sardinia. It was played primarily in the Crimea, around the naval base of Sevastopol. It resulted in the defeat of Russia, which was embodied in the Treaty of Paris in 1856.
