Train and railway with mountain scenery: A Canadian Pacific diesel locomotive transporting freight in Banff National Park.
Légende
The Canadian Pacific Railway mainline is the busiest east west freight line in Canada. Between Banff and Lake Louise it follows the Bow River in some of the most spectacular and pristine mountain scenery in the word. The Banff National Park must carefully balance preservation and ecological integrity with the irreversible impact of transportation and infrastructure development. As part of its policy to reduce its footprint on the environment Canadian Pacific is upgrading its locomotive fleet with GE Evolution Series locomotives. These engines produce 60 fewer smog pollutants and are 20 more fuel efficient than those produced 20 years ago. The GE Evolution ES44AC diesel locomotive, pictured, meets the 2005 US Environmental Protection Agency's Tier 2 locomotive emissions standard.
