Elimelech dies in Moab and then the sons marry Moabite women: Ruth and Orpa. After while the sons also die widow Naomi remains with two wretched childless daughters-in-law and decides to go back to Judah. On her way to Judah she wants to send the daughters-in-law back to Moab their own country in the hope that they will marry there and still have children. Orpa obeys her mother-in-law and goes back. Ruth, on the other hand, goes with her mother-in-law to Judah. There she will eventually marry Boaz from which marriage Obed is born the father of Isai and thus the grandfather of David.
