National Dock Strike 1972.
Fighting between pickets & Police at Guiness, Lincs on 14th August 1972. Three policemen were hurt in clashes and 9 dockers arrested.
Fighting started by mystery man, in green shirt, who enraged dockers by dashing out from behind police lines & striking out with a brick.
Thousands of British dockers began an official strike (28/07/1972) in order to safeguard jobs.
No cargo is being handled by the country's 42,000 registered dockers.
They are protesting at plans for compulsory redundancies and against threats to their workload from container firms using cheaper, casual labour. *** Local Caption *** The National Docks Delegate Conference of the Transport and General Workers UnionWatScan - - 07/01/2010
