Rescue Squad 25th September 1940 

Drawn by George Whitelaw for the Daily Herald  as the Allies attempted to capture the strategic port of Dakar in French West Africa (modern-day Senegal). 
The invasion attempt failed,  the consequences were mainly political. De Gaulle had believed that he would be able to persuade the Vichy French at Dakar to change sides, but this turned out not to be the case, a result that damaged his standing among the Allies. The failure also meant that for a short period of time the British government lost prestige with the US administration
