James Ramsay. Portrait of James Ramsay (1733-1789), a Scottish-born navy surgeon who turned to religion, becoming an Anglican pastor on the Caribbean island of St Christopher (St Kitts). An anti-slavery campaigner, he also wrote a book about the maltreatment of African slaves in the British sugar colonies. Probably St Christopher (St Kitts), circa 1785. St Kitts and Nevis, Caribbean, North America .
