Mate Kole II at a Ngmayem festival. Mate Kole II (1910-1990), the Paramount Chief or Konor of Manya Krobo, sits beneath ceremonial umbrellas with his retinue at an annual Ngmayem harvest festival. He is attended by his 'okyeames' (linguists), each of whom carries a 'poma' (linguist's staff) as a badge of office. The child with the painted face and elaborate headdress, seated at Mate Kole II's feet, represents the Konor's 'soul'. Odumasi, Ghana, circa 1960. Odumasi, East (Ghana), Ghana, Western Africa, Africa.
