The Cawnpore Memorial Well. Marochetti's Angel at the centre of the Cawnpore (Kanpur) Memorial Well. The monument commemorates the burial place, a dry well, of some two hundred European and Eurasian women and children hostages who were murdered on 16 July 1857 during the Indian Mutiny and Rebellion (1857-58).
