Inside the Krak de Chevaliers. The ruined interior of the Krak de Chevaliers, a prominent hill fortress in the Homs Gap. Once the headquarters of the Knights Hospitaller during the Crusades (1095-1291), it controlled the road to the Mediterranean and is one of many fortresses that formed a defensive network along the border of the old Crusader states.
