Bas relief representing a night skyscape, from the ceiling of one of the chapels where the resurrection of Osiris was commemorated, Known as the Zodiac of Dendera it is thought to commemorate a particular configuration of planets which occurs only once every 1000 years and has been dated between 15 June and 15 August 50 BC. Four women hold up the vault of heaven with the help of falcon headed deities. In the periphery of the circle 36 spirits or decans symbolise the 360 days of the Egyptian year. The constellations inside represent the signs of the zodiac and the northen sky, including the Great Bear in the form of a bulls foreleg. Country of Origin : Ancient Egypt. Ancient Egyptian.
