Churinga pendant, It was believed the ancestors of the Dreamtime and their weapons had become these sacred discs. They represent each persons immortal spirit, while the design is a totemic pattern of the associated sacred site. As such they could only be viewed by initiated men and had to handled with the correct ritual songs. Australia. Aboriginal. 20th c Aranda region, Central Australia.
