Ipiutak burial mask, There are 80 cavities around the mask that were apparently inlaid with jet. A grave find from the Point Hope settlement, Alaska. Burial masks were placed over the face of a shaman at death to prevent the spirit returning to reanimate the corpse, then buried between the knees of the deceased. USA Alaska. Eskimo Ipiutak culture.
