Dance hat, The crest is probably a wolf although it could be a bear. Goodwill was ensured at northern ceremonials by the scattering of sacred white eagle down. The down was concealed in a hollow inside the potlatch rings attached to the hat and was was thrown out by the jerky head movements of the dancer. Northwest Coast of America. collected in 1879.
