Hammer head, Hafted hammers were used to pound wedges, drive stakes etc. The hammer heads were pecked from stone and a wooden handle was bound tightly on, either by a groove or a hole pecked right through the head. Many such hammer heads assumed zoomorphic forms. Northwest Coast of America. Prehistoric.
