A detail from the so called Standard of Ur, side B, The figures are composed of shell with engraved details in a backround of lapis lazuli. This panel shows war with chariots pulled by four donkeys trampling the enemies. Infantry wearing cloaks carry spears while enemy soldiers are killed with axes and prisoners are paraded naked. Sumerian. Early dynastic. c 2500 BC. Ur, Sumeria, Ancient Iraq.
