Hong KongChina, Rickshaws, pedestrians and street traders bustle about on Queen's Road Central. The Pedder Street clock tower, demolished in 1908, is visible in the distance; an original caption comments that it is covered 'with bamboo scaffolding for repairs'. Original manuscript caption: "No.2 Hong Kong April 1903 - Queens Road Central looking East...Note Blake Clock Tower on left with Bamboo scaffolding for repairs. Coolie in centre of road carrying two baskets on bamboo over shoulder - typical fashion. Note large gutters by side of road for heavy rain and on left hand side wooden platform necessary to step over gutters. This street too narrow for traffic only about 20 yards wide & often traffic congested.", April 1903. 1998/028/2/1.
