John McHugh of the New York Public School Athletic League is the dean of track & field starters.
He has been the official starter at the Olympics and at every national AAU meet for the past 20 years, and is expected to be the official starter again at the upcoming Olympics in Los Angeles in 1932. Here is McHugh in one of his characteristic poses with the starter pistol in hand.
