A portrait of Col. William Hayward and noted sculptor Sally James Farnham standing in a trench where his troops train for the war in Europe. Hayward commands the 15th Infantry, the only African American Regiment in New York, and Farnham created a bronze equestrian statuette of Hayward in uniform on horseback.
