Weaving Tules Into Walls
Légende
California: c.1930
The framework for the Yokuts' house was made of willow poles. Tules were cut and allowed to wilt and toughen, and then they were twined together with string to make large flexible mats. The Indians made string from the fibers of milkweed, wild hemp, yucca, and other plants.
