The last soviet troops returning home from afghanistan , monday, february 15th, marks the tenth anniversary of the withdrawal of the soviet army from afghanistan; on february 15th, 1989, commander of the 40th army general boris gromov was the last of the soviet soldiers to cross the bridge over the river amu darya which separated afghanistan from the ussr, that was the end of a nearly 10-year undeclared war which killed about 15,000 soviet soldiers and officers and at least 100,000 afghan people,and a great number of people from both sides remained disabled after the war.
