Russia's leading diamond exporter almazy rossll-sakha (also known as alrosa) and the south african transnational corporation de beers on tuesday signed a trade agreement on the terms and conditions of the sale of russian diamonds for exports until the end of 1998, the signing took place in president hotel in central moscow, the agreement was signed by alrosa president vyacheslav shtyrov, chairman of the de beers board of directors nicholas oppenheimer and managing director of the london-based central selling organisation harry rafe, the signing of the trade agreement puts into effect the memorandum of principles of cooperation between alrosa and de beers,in keeping with the two documents, russia will sell to de beers uncut diamonds worth at least 550 million dollars every year (in 1996, russia exported diamonds worth 1,3 billion dollars), the agreement provides for priority supplies of russian diamond-cutting enterprises with uncut diamonds that will ensure profits after cutting,picture shows alrosa president vyacheslav shtyrov smiling after signing the agreement.
