Historical Geography. 1900. India. Ash-smeared fakirs who flourish on village credulity
Légende
Historical Geography. 1900. India. Indian fakirs are of two kinds: the ascetic orders, which for the most part live in monasteries and have been compared to the Franciscans, and the wandering charlatans who live upon the superstitions of the villagers. The second type, as seen above, are of extremely unwholesome appearance, indescribably dirty, and have the unpleasing habit of daubing themselves with ashes.
