The death of Verginia, or Virginia, (c. 465 – 449 BC) stabbed by her father Lucius Verginius at the Shrine of Venus Cloacina, to save her from the lust of the decemviri Appius Claudius Crassus who wanted her for himself despite the fact that she was betrothed to another. From Ward and Lock's Illustrated History of the World, published c.1882.
