Magic Lantern slide circa 1900 hand coloured. created in 1887. Dolgelly, with Cader Idris.—To get this view we climb the hill a little to the North of the town, and here the pretty little place, with its straggling streets and clean grey stone houses, lies at our feet, sheltered by the woods that cover the base of Cader Idris, and over¬topped almost by that great mountain itself. The height of the highest peak, of which there are three, is 3,100 feet. That standing out so prominently in the centre is Mynydd Moel, and the one just peeping over the ridge more to the right is really the summit, called Pen-y-Cader. The view from its peak on a clear day is really magnificent. For sublime elevation, tremendous precipices, and exten¬sive prospects, Cader Idris equals Snowdon. The best ascent is made from Dolgelly, and occupies three hours. On account of the boggy nature of the ground and the badly defined pathways, it is not safe to make the first ascent without a guide.
