Magic Lantern slide circa 1900 hand coloured. Titled Cities and places of interest in the Mediterranean. 17- —CORSICA. Looking down from Nice across the sparkling waters to the south, in the early morning, the eye rests on a dim haze that presently shapes itself into the snow-capped mountains of Corsica, the birthplace of the first Napoleon, the “ arbiter of others' fate,” who at last became “the suppliant for his own.” The island is extremely beautiful and romantic, being a mass of woods and forests, mountains and streams, with quaint villages and towns dotted about it at considerable dis¬tances from each other. The natives are by no means an agreeable race, being a wild and dishonest people, and carrying their revengeful feelings to such an extent that their vendettas have become world renowned [ The accompanying view shows us Corti, one of the most picturesque of its inland towns.
