Magic lantern slide circa 1900.Victorian/Edwardian social history. A postcard of Queenstown, New Zealand by famous photographer Frederick George Radcliffe (F.G.R Postcards) The notable British born photographer, Frederick George Radcliffe is widely recognised in New Zealand as one of the pre-eminent photographers of his time. Radcliffe traveled the length and breadth of this country recording clear, detailed pictorial images of rural and urban New Zealand scenes. Much of his subject matter consisted of aesthetically pleasing views of parks and gardens, municipal buildings, churches and all manor of community infrastructure. Curiously, with the exception of an array of maori subjects a great many of his images were completely devoid of the presence of people.
