Magic lantern slide circa 1900.Victorian/Edwardian.Social History.No. 7.—Palace of the Archbishop of Algiers. Amongst other public buildings possessed now by the city are the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace. The former used to be a mosque and the latter a palace in the times of the Deys. The view before us shows us the ground floor of the palace, with its delicately wrought white marble columns supporting the Moorish colonnade. Strewn about and along the walls are various fragments of Roman and other antiquities, from ancient Carthage Constantine, and elsewhere [B]. In the centre is the ample courtyard, quite open to the sky.
