St. Mark's Cathedral, Venice circa 1900 on a magic lantern slide, photographs created in 1888 by Joseph John William. First built in the ninth century, but burned in the century following. It was again rebuilt during parts of the tenth and eleventh centuries. The famous structure is of brick, adorned with the richest coloured marbles, and the architecture is Romanesque Byzantine, a style peculiar to Venice.
