Légende
The Eastern Question. April Uprising of 1876. Insurrection organised by the Bulgarians in the Ottoman Empire from April to May 1876. A hundred Bulgarians and Serbs who had landed close to Widdin, in the second half of May 1876, were surprised by Circassians Corps. They put them to the sword and mutilated. These men were peasants who formed a band of insurgents, under the command of Chief Botioff, who landed in the vicinity of Costodi, flying the Bulgarian green flag. Their heads were exposed in the first enclosure of the Turkish fortress of Widdin. Engraving. La Ilustracion Española y Americana, July 30, 1876.
