Richard Wagner (1813-1883). German composer, conductor and theatre director. Wagner at the piano rehearsing the music of "Das Rheingold" ("The Rhine Gold"), prologue to the first four operas that comprise the "Der Ring des Nibelungen" ( "The Ring of the Nibelung") cycle. Standing and next to him, the conductor, of Hungarian origin and diffuser of Wagner's work, Hans Richter (1843-1916). Rehearsal held in Bayreuth on the occasion of his performance as part of the complete cycle on 13 August, 1876, in the Bayreuther Festspielhaus. Engraving by Capuz, detail.
