Spain, Madrid. In order to alleviate the problems of water supply in the capital, it was projected to bring to the bottom of the Principe Pio Mountain the waters from the Fountain of La Reina (at the Mount of El Pardo), lifting them conveniently for distribution among the population through steam machines. Construction works began in March 1852 and ended in November 1856. The English-made machines work with the Cornouaille system. The director of construction was the architect Martin Lopez Aguado. View of the interior of the Machine House (Pump Station). Engraving. La Ilustracion Española y Americana, December 15, 1876.
