It Happened in Harlem (All-American, 1945). Filmed at the famous Smalls Paradise night club, this jumping jive comedy featured performances from some of the biggest names in the 1940s jazz scene. Perhaps most outstanding of all the musicians listed was the famed Christopher Columbus, leader of the Swing Crew. Columbus led his own band for more than two decades, beginning in the 1930s, and played such prestigious venues as Harlem's Savoy Ballroom. .
