He was ordered by the government of Jules Ferry to direct the military operations in Tunisia, from April to July 1881. Expedition of French troops to Tunisia. View of the port of the commercial emporium of La Calle, in Algeria, chosen for the disembarkation and concentration of expeditionary troops because of its proximity to the border with Tunisia.
