Spain. Castile and Leon. Avila. Cathedral of St. Salvador. Catholic church. Its construction started during the 12th century in Romanesque style and concluded in the 14th century in Gothic style. Architectural detail of the Romanesque-Gothic apse which was built partly as a fortress. The apse is a fortified tower embedded into the defensive town walls. Architect: Giral Fruchel, 12th century.
