This photograph depicts the cargo ship Arizona Sword listing to port as it sinks in the Cape Cod Canal. On May 5, 1951, the vessel was involved in a collision with the SS Berwindvale near the east end of the canal in Sandwich, Massachusetts. Her cargo of 48,000 tons of sulphur would be successfully salvaged by midsummer.
