"Penitentiary To Siberia!" is a 1928 German silent film about the Katorga. The Katorga , derived from the Greek kateirgon ("to force"), was the most severe punishment in the Russian Empire after the death penalty, in which the convict was banished and had to do forced labor. Most were sent to Siberia and lost all their civil rights. Art by Julius Kupfer-Sachs.
