The Tayumanavar temple

The Tayumanavar temple in the Tiruchirapalli Fort precincts and of the Uchchipillaiyar temple on the summit of the Rock at Tiruchirappalli. The foreground shows the bazaar street into which opens the door to the steps which lead the visitor up to the Tayumanavar temple. Shown on the left is the temple of the main deity, Matrubhuteshvara, and near it that of the goddess consort, Sugandha Kuntalambal. Treetops and the upper storeys of a gopura can be seen behind the walls of the Fort. The Uchchipillaiyar shrine at the top of the Rock and the steps leading to it are shown. From the summit of the temple flies a Union Jack.
