February 5, 1945 - Lt. Gen George S. Patton, Jr., Commander of the Third US Army, is shown in his armored jeep during a visit to the 87th Dividion Headquarters at the front. By February 5, 1945, Gen. Patton's men had pierced the Siegfried Line defenses in the Schnee Eifel Forest, four and a half miles northwest of Prum, and entered Brandscheid, while advance elements were reported only two miles from the big Hansfold Reservoir, center of the intricate water system which has long been an obstacle in the Allied Advance.
