Civil war that confronted Carlists, supporters of the Infante Carlos Maria Isidro de Borbon, against the Isabelinos (Elizabethans), defenders of Isabel II and the regent Maria Cristina de Borbon. Action at Vargas (November 3, 1833). The inhabitants of the city of Santander, siding with the Elizabethan side, fought against and defeated the Carlist troops who were trying to take the city.
