Nabonidus king of Babylonia, sending instructions to Belshazzar. On the advance of the Persians in 539 BC, he placed his son Belshazzar in command of the army and contented himself with sending messages to the front. Nabonidus, last king of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, reigning from 556-539 BC. From Hutchinson's History of the Nations, published 1915.
